Dear students,
I love sports, as most of you know already; however, I am aware of the fact that not everyone enjoys playing sports. Many of you might enjoy watching them, but are uneasy about playing them yourself...
There are some SOLUTIONS to your worries!
-First of all, try to pinpoint what you dislike about certain sports (Is it the team aspect? The roughness? Or, do you just simply hate it with a passion?).
-Next, if it is the fact that you do not like having to work with other people (which you will have to do throughout your lives, so you might as well practice while you're still young), then take up a sport that is more individual such as: martial arts, horseback riding, tennis, surfing, snowboarding or swimming....the list goes on....
-If it is the physical roughness there are plenty of low-contact sports out there: golf, ultimate frisbee, cross-country running, track and field, or hiking.
For those of you who simply hate sports with a passion, just try your best to get active in other ways. Take a nice walk with your friends through nice parts of town, go shopping and park on the opposite side that you need to be on so you are forced to walk longer, and take the stairs instead of the elevator (NOTE: the key is to just do as many things as you can to increase your level of activity).
For those of you who LOVE sports, I'm sure you haven't had too much of a problem trying to find a sport that works for you. I personally like to play basketball, volleyball, go snowboarding, and play football with my friends and family.
What are some sports you have tried? What did you like or dislike about them? What sports would you recommend to others to try? Are there any new exercises you have thought about trying such as yoga, kickboxing or Pilate's?

Breakfast!!
Dear students,
This morning, I had water, cereal and a banana for breakfast. I drank it all down with a cold glass of fat-free milk. I know it can be difficult to eat breakfast when you are rushing to school, and your parents are bugging you to get to school on-time. However, here are some tips to cut down on time:
-Pour the cereal the night before so all you have to do is add milk.
-Make a smoothie the night before and keep it in the refrigerator.
**If you absolutely do not have time to eat breakfast, or simply do not get hungry in the morning, at least try to eat a piece of fruit and some whole-grain toast. These items can be eaten on the way to school, and will give your body some fuel to "wake-up." Also, pack a mid-morning snack to bring to school and eat between classes. Celery with peanut butter is excellent to eat because you benefit from the vegetables, and get protein from the peanut butter.
What are some of your favorite breakfast foods?
Do you consciously make an effort to eat breakfast in the morning, or is it a chore?
Remember that your body needs fuel for the day, so the best way to get your metabolism running (and your brain going) is to eat breakfast! =) Your test scores will improve because you will be more focused.

Fitness Activity of the day
Dear students,
Today after I got home I drank some water, then decided to go outside and play some basketball at my apartment. I played for about an hour, and made sure to stretch before and afterwards. Then, I went to the gym, did leg lifts, push-ups, sit-ups, and the lateral pull-down. I came home and drank plenty of water, and ate a well-balanced meal of salmon with a salad and whole-grain pasta.
Also, I have been cutting down on the amount of coffee, soda, and energy drinks I consume because they make your body become dehydrated, which makes exercise much more difficult. And why would you want to make it more difficult than it already is? =) So if you are feeling tired, go for a light jog, and you will be amazed at how much more energy you have.
What physical activity did you do today? Did you fit in your 30 mins? If not, did you at least do some household chores such as laundry, or taking out the garbage? If you did zero physical activity today other than exercise your thumb muscles while texting, playing video games, or watching tv; what will you do tomorrow to change this?

Webliography 5- Six Websites
Here is the first website from Olga Maribel Teran that I thought was interesting:
http://www.freerice.com/index.php
Basically the site contains grammar and vocabulary words, and you can practice your vocab skills. Each time you are correct, a certain amount of rice is donated to places around the world that are suffering from hunger.
The second website that I liked from Sarah Tomczyk
http://www.teachervision.fen.com/
The site contains lesson plans for teachers, and is meant for teachers to save time. There are also printables, and resources for teachers.
The third website from Dominique Wise is called:
http://www.starfall.com/
I like that site because it focuses on teaching children the importance of reading, and helps them improve their reading skills.
The fourth website from Bret Brielmaier is called:
www.math.com
This website has basic math, pre-algebra, calculus, statistics, trigonometry, and geometry. Usually most math websites only have basic math, but I like this because it helps with all types of math. It also has other subjects such as science, history and english.
The fifth website that I also got from Bret Brielmaier is called:
http://www.quia.com/
I like how teachers can chat with one another, and make lesson plans more efficiently.
The last website is from Brigid Leedom called:
http://easybib.com/
I like it because you are able to make bibliographies in MLA and APA format without all of the work. In addition, it automatically puts it in alphabetical order, so students can create a works cited and then convert it to a word format.
Well, that's all I have for now! These websites are all extremely helpful with education!

Homecoming 2008/Basketball news
Tonight my brother, Patrick and my dad are coming to Tucson from San Diego to visit my sister and I. We are going out to dinner at Sullivan's tonight along with my good friend, Chris. I love the food at Sullivan's, and you get treated like a king there! After dinner, my brother, sister and I are going out to a club called Level. They are having a red and blue themed homecoming party, so that should be fun. Tomorrow Arizona football is playing USC for Homecoming. As of now, we are second behind USC in the PAC-10, so tomorrow's game is crucial for us to move up to number 1. Every year on Homecoming since I have been a freshman, we have upset a ranked team on Homecoming, so let's hope that this year (my senior year) we will continue with that tradition.
Some other big news at the U of A is that head coach of the UA men's basketball game, Lute Olson, is retiring this year. He is 74 years old, and has the second most wins of an active head coach, coming second to Coach K. (head coach of Duke). I was really looking forward to going to some basketball games this season and seeing Lute Olson as the coach. I have been to many while at the U of A, but last year Olson took a sabbatical, and assistant coach Kevin O'Neil took over as temporary head coach. The team struggled through injuries, and having to play a different style of basketball, and I did not like O'Neil as a coach. He did not allow the players to play a one-on-one style that they were used to, and as a result, our team did not do very well last season, and lost very early in the NCAA Tournament. I love playing basketball and have played my entire life, so I understand how teams go through ups and downs, and how coaches come and go. As a player you have to be able to make adjustments, and get used to the new coaching style. It can be difficult, especially if the new style does not match the style you prefer. So, we'll see how the basketball team does this season, and who will end up replacing Lute Olson as head coach.

UA Football Game
Tonight I filmed the U of A football game against CAL, for UATV. I was on the sidelines along with a reporter named Sarah Kezele. It was really exciting and before the game I got to hang out in the skybox press area. There were many professional news stations there, reporters, journalists, etc. I did not realize how many people it takes to cover a football game. When the game started, I got a really good shot of the team running onto the field. The crowd was cheering, and fireworks went off. Luckily, the game was at night, so the weather was nice (in the 70s).
When the game began, I had to make sure I was paying attention to each play because I had to run end zone to end zone each time there was a change in possession. I missed a couple of plays, but overall the shots I got were good. On one of the plays, CAL was going for a touchdown, and a couple of players almost ran into me. They are so big (even the smallest ones are my height...5'10"). I was on FSN Arizona a few times which I thought was pretty cool. Overall, I had a really good time filming the game. Arizona played very well, and won the game which made me happy. I also filmed the press conference with head coach Mike Stoops after the game. He was very pleased with the result, and is looking forward to playing USC for Homecoming next Saturday.
I cannot wait until basketball season starts, and I will be able to film the basketball games! So far I have been able to go to soccer, softball, volleyball and football. I am definitely looking forward to basketball since that is my favorite sport. Well, that's all for now. I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

22nd Birthday
My 22nd birthday was Thursday, October 9. One of my friends took my twin sister and I out to dinner at P.F. Chang's to celebrate. We had a good time, and enjoyed the food. The next night, my sister Caitlin, and I held a Black and White themed birthday party at our apartment. My mom sent us black and white balloons that were delivered that evening. Also, we made chocolate covered strawberries, and had potato chips with homemade onion dip.
The party was a success overall. People did not show up until around 10pm (which is normal for a college party). Many of my friends came, some who I had not seen in quite awhile. My friend Chris bought us a black and white cheesecake and put birthday candles on it. The cheesecake was really tasty, and there were definitely no leftovers. The party ended around 2am, and I woke up the next day around noon. There was a lot of cleanup that needed to be done...I had to throw away cans, plastic cups, wash dishes, glasses, vacume, mop, and take out 4 bags of trash. It was a really fun party though, and it makes me want to throw another one when the San Diego Chargers make the playoffs...which I am predicting will happen (which should not surprise anyone since I am one of the biggest Charger fans ever).
